Nataraj or the Dance of Shiva has five symbols:

1- The drum that Shiva has in his left hand is a symbol of creation.

2- The palm of Shiva’s hand is symbol of divine blessings and the divine protection from calamities.

3- The flame in the right hand is the symbol of destruction and annihilation of impurities.

4- The right foot on the ground is the symbol of worldly consciousness, which is chained to the ground by human forgetfulness and confusion.

5- The left leg raised from the ground is the symbol of the clear virtue of the soul and freedom from reincarnation after sufficient maturity of the soul.
